Eligibility for 2023/2024

 

To be eligible for a Liann Bordeau-Buck Memorial Scholarship, you must:

• Be graduating in June 2024 from a public high school located in Berkshire County, Massachusetts

• Be a Berkshire County resident

• Be accepted to an accredited four-year college or post-secondary institution in the United States as a candidate for a degree

• Interest in pursuing a science degree and demonstrated commitment to school extracurricular activities and community service

• Have a solid academic record demonstrated by a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

Review Process

​

The 2023/2024 scholarship window will open on October 1, 2023, and the deadline to apply is 11:59 PM (EST) on Sunday April 21, 2024.  Scholarship winners will be notified by early June 2024.

 

The Foundation’s Board of Directors will review applications at the end of April 2024. Scholarship awards will be determined and applicants will be notified by early June 2024. 

 

 Application Contents

• Application form (Print or Online) 

• Sample work to demonstrate commitment to the sciences (copy of a paper written for a science class, or summary of a project, etc.)

• Essay of approximately 500 words about your interest in, and commitment to science education

• Two letters of recommendation (one from a school counselor or teacher and one from another adult who is not related to you. For example, another teacher, an employer, troop leader, minister or pastor)—just include names and email addresses in the print or online application. An email to your contacts will be sent and they will be able to send to the Foundation. 

• Official high school transcript through midterm period of second semester senior year NOTE: If you don't have access to an official transcript due to school closings, please send an unofficial one and ask your counselor to email a copy of the official transcript to: inquiry@liannbordeau-buckfoundation.org or mail to:

• Letter of acceptance from college or post-secondary institution

• Optional: official copy of SAT or ACT scores (only for students who were able to take a test; not applicable for those who have not taken the test)
